I am pleased to follow in my predecessors footsteps and be Patron of Fairtrade in Bolton during my term of office.  My wife and I regularly buy Fairtrade products.  We know that that simple action does such a lot of good by helping over 7 million farmers and growers across the world to earn a decent amount for their hard work, and so to help themselves out of poverty. I am proud that Bolton became accredited as a Fairtrade Town in March 2003, and hope that we will continue to lead the way in promoting justice in trade.

Councillor Anthony Connell, Mayor of Bolton and Patron, Fairtrade in Bolton

Note: Do shop around. As Fairtrade becomes mainstream, retailers may place their own mark up for Fairtrade as a premium product. The popular geobars have been seen on sale in Bolton for prices ranging from 30p to £1.15! If you think a retailer is selling goods at too high a price, tell them so and also let us know.
